Frequently asked questions

The questions that come up before a first session, answered plainly.

The session

What it is, what you'll get, and whether it's worth it.

What kinds of things can AI help with?

AI can help with everyday things — planning a trip, comparing options, making sense of a dense document, drafting or improving writing, and researching a question with sources you can check. It can also help organize information, build a report, and streamline recurring work. Part of the session is finding where it genuinely fits your life or work — and where it doesn't.

What will I be able to do after one session?

You'll leave with a clearer sense of what AI can and cannot do for you, practical examples shaped around your own needs, and a way of working with it that you can repeat on your own. If you bring something specific, you'll also make real progress on it.

Will a single session really be worth it?

A focused session can go further than it sounds when all the time is aimed at you — no curriculum and nothing that doesn't apply. Bring something specific and we'll make real progress; come for a grounded introduction and you'll leave with a clearer sense of where AI can help, where it struggles, and how to begin.

Which session length should I choose?

Choose 60 minutes for a grounded introduction, a focused question, or one clearly defined piece of work. Choose 90 minutes when you want more room for larger material, a report, or a multi-step workflow. When in doubt, choose 60; if the work needs more room, you can continue in a later session.

I've already used ChatGPT a bit — is this too basic for me?

No. The session starts from wherever you actually are. If you've already used ChatGPT, the next gains often come from giving better context, shaping requests more deliberately, comparing approaches, and refining an answer instead of accepting the first version. Those skills can improve quickly in a focused session.

Can I bring a specific project or question?

Absolutely. If you have something specific you want to try with AI, bring it and we'll work on it directly. And if you don't have anything particular in mind, that's equally fine: your questions or a grounded introduction are just as good a use of the session.

Is one session enough, or will I need several?

A session is complete on its own — no program to finish and no assumed next step. A grounded introduction may be all you need; if you're improving several recurring workflows or working through a larger project, you may choose to return as new needs arise. Start with one; where it goes from there is up to you.

Privacy and confidentiality

How to handle sensitive material — yours or someone else's.
3 questions
Can I work on something confidential — client files or work documents?

You never need to send confidential material to me. We can work from a redacted copy or a substitute with the same structure, and the method transfers to the real document. Knowing what to share with an AI, what to hold back, and how to use placeholders effectively is part of what the session teaches.

Is it safe to share personal information with AI?

Not everything should be shared with an AI, but much of it can be handled safely with judgment. AI apps differ in how they use conversations, and their default settings may not match your preferences; we can review those together. You'll also learn when to use a stand-in or a vaguer version — and what never belongs in a chat, such as passwords or account numbers.

Are sessions recorded or transcribed?

Sessions are not audio- or video-recorded by default. With your advance consent, I may use transcription to create a written transcript and private session notes. You can decline or ask me to stop transcription at any time without affecting the session.

What if I've never used AI before?

That's a fine place to start. The session begins wherever you are — no assumed knowledge, no jargon — and builds from there. Starting fresh even has a quiet advantage: no habits to unlearn.

I've tried AI and found it confusing — is this different?

Yes. AI often gives shallow or confusing answers when it gets little context or direction, and most people are never shown how much difference that makes. A session closes that gap so the tool becomes clearer, more useful, and less frustrating.

What if I'm not very comfortable with computers?

You don't need to be a tech expert. If you're comfortable with the basics — browsing the internet, typing, and joining a video call — you have what you need. You'll follow along on your own device, and we can work in your own accounts when that's useful. Any setup gets handled together in the first few minutes.

What if I feel embarrassed to ask questions?

There's no one else in the room. A session is just the two of us, and questions aren't interruptions here; they're the material. The question you're hesitant to ask is often the most useful one in the session.

What if I'm not sure AI is a good thing?

That's a reasonable thing to wonder. AI raises real concerns — about work, about privacy, about how things are changing — and I share many of them. Learning how it actually works puts you in a better position to think clearly about all of that, and in a better position to take advantage of what it can do for you too.

What do I need for a session?

A computer or tablet with a web browser, a reliable internet connection, and 60 or 90 minutes, depending on the session you choose. The session happens live on Zoom. I'll send you a link beforehand, and you can join in your browser or the app.

Do I need a paid AI account? Which app should I use?

No. A free account is enough to begin and may be all you need. I usually teach with ChatGPT, but the core skills transfer to Claude and Gemini as well. If a paid plan would materially improve what you want to do, we can assess that during the session. You'll find links on the Get Started page.

Can I reschedule or cancel?

Yes. Life happens. If you need to reschedule, just let me know at least 24 hours beforehand and we'll find another time. If you need to cancel, I'm happy to refund you — same 24-hour notice.
